An undercover reporter who likes to remain anonymous have exposed the activities of some bad eggs in the Nigerian Customs Service who help smugglers bring in banned items like rice and turkey into the country even though these items have been banned from entering through the land borders.
The reporter covered the area around Seme and Idiroko borders. A place called Totowu in Ogun State sharing a boundary with Lagos, is where the smugglers move heavy smuggled items everyday, with their peak day being Thursday.
As the investigation showed, the Custom officers might have an arrangement with the smugglers to move the products mostly on Thursdays.
The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested a cousin of former first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend, Miss Seigha Atia.
The young man, whose name is Victor Oba is is the manager of Patience Jonathan’s Aridolf Hotels and Spars.
According to the report, he and his 2&-year-old girlfriend parted ways due to his violent nature, having raised his hands on her in the past.
The event leading up to the attempted murder was an argument he had with the young lady, following the argument, he asked her to meet him outside her house to collect the remains of her belongings from his car. However, as soon as she stepped out of her gate, he drove his SUV and violently hit her, pining her to the fence.
She screamed, cried and begged for mercy but he didn’t reverse the car away from her. By the time he drove out car, one of her leg was damaged beyond repair.
Neighbors rushed to her rescue and got her to the hospital where she was told she will be amputated to save her life.
The words of the victim, “On the day of the incident, we had an argument and he called me and asked me to come outside of our gate to get the rest of my things in his car.
“The next thing, he drove his car into me with speed. He hit me against our gate, held me there and did not reverse his car despite the fact that I was screaming in pains.
“He later reversed and I fell to the ground and he zoomed off. My neighbors, who watched what happened screamed for help and came to my rescue. This relationship lasted for four months. .
“But I decided to quit when I discovered that he was a violent person. He had hit me once that was when everything started to take a nosedive.“
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Asimim Bytswat, confirmed the incident.
The assailant Victor Oba has been arrested and taken to Azikoro police station.
A police inspector attached to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Mr. Bassey Peter Ikpe has reportedly beat up Mrs. Deborah Nkereuwem Nkpenie to death.
The incident took place on Thursday, 16th of January, 2020.
According to Ukpono Sunday Umoren, the Keke driver who witnessed the incident at vicinity of the State Headquarters of the Police Command, reported that “the police man came approached my Keke which bore the woman. He shouted at her that she was lying about her sickness.
He made efforts to drag her out. In anger, he knocked her head by the side rail of the keke. The woman was screaming that she’s not well. She began to suffocate, and found it difficult to breath. The police man kept insisting that she was lying. He even told her that, if she wants to die, she should die.
As she was screaming, the police man was trying to pull her out of the Keke, her voice grew faint.
We were begging the police man to refrain from his hostile act towards the deceased. He ever refused us taking her to hospital. It was after she breathed her last, that he eventually ordered that she should be taken to the hospital.”
The Deputy Commissioner, Mrs. S. U. Horsefall, had earlier advised the Inspector against unprofessional conduct.
