Woman Loses Her Sick Baby In Lagos Hospital Because The Doctor Abandoned Him To Go And Pray

A Nigerian mother has lamented the ugly experience she had at Lagos General hospital Ikorodu where she took her 9-months old baby for treatment due to difficulty in breathing.

The bereaved mum

Unfortunately, she lost the baby because the only doctor on duty abandoned the baby and went to go and pray, after keeping her waiting for several hours.

Her words below:

“My son had an attack around 3am in the morning on the 19th of July,2019. we got to General hospital Ikorodu around 3:30am, rushed to the emergency room and had my mom fill form for my son cos he needs to be attended to immediately… Unfortunately for us, the doctor wasn’t on

seat or in his office and what the nurse said then was “I can do nothing to him unless the doctor is here” (in Yoruba) tho after helping with oxygen.
Called his line it was switched off, checked his office he wasn’t there, nobody knows his whereabout.
When he was later

Found around 5am, he wasn’t emotional, no sign of emergency act through him, he wasn’t audible enough when he started asking question, no first aid treatment except from the one given from the nurse, the worst part of it was that he kept insisting he wants to go pray (as a Muslim

All of this was around 5:30am cos I kept checking the time. He wrote all what to get… Ran to get them and got back. He told me to get another stuffs, went to get them… During this period he was already at the mosque..
He got back around after 6 and my son was already weak…

He kept attending to other people (tho I’m not really against that but those people are not even emergency cases cos they were only complaining about headache or body pain) During this period my son couldn’t breath fine again and he said he will need to transfer us to ikeja cos

there’s no bed to admit him.. to cut the long story short… I lost my son around 10am in the morning… No treatment given, no first aid except from oxygen given, all items bought was wasted, no effort shown at all, even at his death bed no emotion at all… I’m not writing this

cos I feel I should write it… I already promised the doctor I’m gonna file a petition against him for incompetency… I don’t know his name but I know they will surely search for his name through their register… He was on night shift and he’s a muslim… If we don’t do this,

they won’t take government work serious. They feel government can’t do nothing to them that’s why they keep wasting lives … Please kindly help repost this till the government see this
Thank you 

ps: my son was just 9 month 2 days then… I’m pained right now.”

Outbreak Of Disease In Boarding School Leaves One Student Dead, Two Hospitalized

The St. Peters Unity Secondary School, Akure, the Ondo State, has witnessed a tragedy as an outbreak of a disease suspected to be bacterial meningitis kills one student and gets two hospitalized and isolated in the children’s ward of Ondo State Specialist Hospital Akure.

St. Peters Unity Secondary School

Preliminary investigations reveal that cause of the ailment could be connected to the unhygienic condition of the school’s kitchen and its environment.

One of the insider sources who confirmed the news of the outbreak to reporters, pleaded anonymity and had this to say; “The school rushed two of the students to the hospital last week because they showed symptoms of an illness…

On Saturday, one the students died while nurses were trying to attend to him and this causesd a lot of panicking. Another female student of the school was rushed to the hospital showing the same symptoms like the other students…

So, the state hospital decided to take precautions and isolate them in the children ward while restricting every visitation.”

Also, a parent of one of the hospitalized students was reached for interview and he had this to say:

“I was called five days ago that my child, who recently gained admission into St. Peter’s Akure, was rushed to the state hospital after he fell sick…

I got to the hospital, and I saw my son lying sick on the bed and could not talk while his eyes look bluish with some nurses attending to him…

Since then, the nurses set him and one other student aside in the hospital as they restricted our movement to him.”

Hospital ward where the children are being treated.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Wahab Adegbenro has confirmed the situation, noting that health practitioners have already been sent to the school for further investigation.

The ministry just got to know about it (the outbreak) and we have taken measures to prevent and ensure it doesn’t spread to others…

We have taken blood samples for diagnosis to confirm the type of disease it might be. We really have to be sure about the type of disease…

We have also isolated two of the students affected at the wards and they have also been placed under control and they would soon recover…

I can say there is no cause for alarm or panic as we have risen up to the challenge. As I speak, we have visited the school to ensure we fumigate everywhere in the dormitory and treated other students…

While the students who might have got in close contact with the ones hospitalized have been placed on medications,” the Commissioner said.

The school authorities have since stopped visitors from coming into the school premises.

NAFDAC Warns Against Use Of Potassium Bromate In Bread

The National Food and Drugs Regulations Agency NAFDAC has launched a nationwide campaign to end the use of Potassium by bakeries in the production of bread due to its direct cause of cancer.

The agency noted that the ingredient which is an additive that bread makers add to flour to strengthen the dough and make it rise and also give an appealing white look to the bread is dangerous to human consumption as it can lead to cancer.

During a meeting with the Bakery Owners Association in Lagos, the agency sensitized the union on best practices in the production of bread and how to maintain hygiene in their facilities while charging them to educate their colleagues on these practices.

NAFDAC however, was very stern in the warning that it will soon embark on a nationwide tour of bakeries to enforce the stoppage of Potassium bromate in bread, and bakeries who are found culpable will be shut down.
