If My Wife Kills Me Just Like Maryam, Allow Her To Live And Take Care Of My Children – Medical Dr Says
“I know my wife will never kill me. But if for any reason this happens, let her be allowed to live and take care of my children.” Those are the words of Dr Anenga Michael, a practicing medical doctor living in Benue State.
Those words may not be unconnected to the death sentence meted yesterday on Maryam Sandas, a housewife who stabbed her husband to death on suspicions of infidelity.
The judgement on Maryam is the first in Nigeria’s history of its kind where a wife is sentenced to death for killing her spouse. Reacting to the news, many Nigerians have poured out emotions and opinions on the fairness of the judgment. Some say its too harsh while others say it is suitable.
The reaction of Dr Anenga for instance, suggests that in his opinion, the woman should be pardoned so she can live to take care of the 1year old child of the couple. He asked that if it ever happens that his wife killed him, it is his wish that his wife should be allowed to live and his wish should be admissible in court.
